History is explained as the study of the past by examining evidence from that time. It would be a daunting task for a historian to attempt to study the whole of history so most choose to focus on a particular type of history. Some may focus on a specific time period while others will choose to specialise on a historical topic. The list below shows some types of history that can be studied.
Geographical Types of History
For example:
World History – a history of events and/or changes over time that have had a global impact
African History – a history of events and/or changes over time that have affected the continent of Africa
Australian History – a history of events and/or changes over time that have affected Australia
History of California – a history of events and/or changes over time that have affected the US state of California
Periods in History
For example:
Prehistory – a history of events and/or changes over time that occurred before the development of writing
Medieval History – a history of events and/or changes that occurred during the Middle Ages
Tudor History – a history of events and/or changes that occurred during the reigns of the Tudor Monarchs
Victorian History – a history of events and/or changes that occurred during the reign of British Queen Victoria

For example
Art History – The development of art and the techniques used by artists from earliest times to present day
History of Mathematics – the development of mathematical concepts from earliest times to present day
Music History – the development of sound, rhythm and music from earliest times to present day
History of Psychology – the development of psychology from earliest times to present day
History of Technology – the development of technology from earliest times to present day

For example
Social History – a look at how people lived in the past and how their lives changed over time
Economic History – a study of how money is made and how economies have changed over time
Political History – the history of the consequences of changes made by Monarchs and other political leaders
Military History – the history of violent conflicts between nations, groups or tribes
Technological History – the development of technology and medical advancements
